Welcome to Wild Wonderful West Virginia - host state of the 11th Annual Mosaic National Event. Last year over 200 people had a fabulous time in Maine. This year we will be taking over Camp Emma Kaufmann in Morgantown, WV. This is the Pittsburgh JCC camp. It is located on a beautiful large scenic lake about an hour south of Pittsburgh. The camp has a kosher kitchen and rumors abound that some of the best camp food you will ever taste comes out of it!
This year's "unique to the area" activity is caving! West Virginia and western Pennsylvania have an amazing array of caverns. We will be exploring Laurelwood Cavern; Your choice of a paved well lit guided tour, or spelunking by foot with headlamps and helmets. Other exciting trips are white-water rafting and rock climbing for all levels. Of course there will be the daily assortment of hikes to choose from, along with biking, canoeing, ropes courses, and lots, lots, more! Many activities are limited to a certain number, so register early to guarantee you spot.
Evening activities feature nightly campfires, Shabbat & havdallah services, leadership training, chapter skits, and presentations by Mosaic Members on a variety of outdoor topics of interest.
Come meet other Jewish people who, like yourself, enjoy nature and the outdoors! You won’t be disappointed.
Answers to Most Frequently Asked Questions
- Round trip shuttle service between the airport and the camp will be provided at a nominal fee. Shuttles will leave several times during the day; timing depends on when people come. - Paying for events early guarantees your slot. Space is limited on rafting, rock climbing, etc., Also, there is a surcharge for paying for them at the event. Rafting is on Friday, rock climbing and caving are Sat and/or Sun so you can do both. Meals are included in the base price, as is canoeing and hiking.
- Housing will be in cabins. Some have bathrooms inside them, others do not. People will be assigned a cabin with or without a bathroom depending on availability at the time of their registration. Obviously, preference is given in order of registration. Singles and doubles will be in platform tents with electricity. The bathrooms for them are also electrified with running water and are very close. The camp provides camp metal frame spring beds and a pillow. You have to bring a sleeping bag or bedroll.
